Fundraising
Did you know it costs hundreds of thousands each year to keep the doors of our dementia support centre open?
As a local independent charity we are constantly looking for ways to raise funds so that we can continue to run services for people with dementia.
There are so many ways you can raise funds for BIADS. If you have a fundraising idea such as running a marathon, throwing yourself from a plane or having a coffee morning on our behalf we’d love to hear from you. We can even help with your publicity and sponsorship forms.
Every year it costs hundreds of thousands for BIADS and our dedicated Dementia Support Centre to run and stay open to help people with dementia and their carers live well. A high percentage of these costs have to be raised via fundraising efforts and donations. There are so many ways you can fundraise on behalf of BIADS. Here are just a few:

Get involved in fundraising challenges & events
There are lots of opportunities to take part, ranging from events we organise ourselves - such as an annual sponsored walk every July to national and regional sporting challenges. and events. We even have BIADS’ branded t-shirts and running vests available to help you ‘look the part’ and will provide sponsorship forms.
Organise your own fundraising challenges & events
Rather than take part in a pre-organised event or challenge why not create one of your own? We'll support you all the way with whatever you need.
Making BIADS your charity of the year
If you are part of a local community group, club or society which holds fundraising events why not choose BIADS as your Charity of the Year? Again we will be only too happy to offer help and support to help maximise the monies raised.
Just Giving
From setting-up a Just Giving Page, creating a text appeal, to promoting and sharing via social media, we can support your Just Giving campaign to maximise fundraising efforts. Take a look at our Just Giving page and see what our fundraisers are currently up to.
Collection boxes
Whether to be used at fundraising events, or placed in your reception area at work, BIADS can provide you with collection boxes. We can also arrange delivery and collection as required, and present you with a ‘thank you’ certificate to display stating the amount of monies raised.
Donation of goods
Let's be honest, we all have too much ‘stuff’ these days, so why not have a clear out and donate your unwanted items to be sold in our Royston-based charity shop. Please note: we cannot accept electrical items. Alternatively, if you have something that could be offered as a raffle prize please let us know.
These are just a selection of the ways you can help to raise much needed monies for BIADS. Whatever you decide to do, your efforts are greatly appreciated by everyone here at BIADS and those we provide support for.
Please remember to let us know about your fundraising plans so we can help promote/provide our logo where required and ensure your efforts comply with the new Code of Fundraising Practice.
As a thank you for your fundraising efforts you will receive a shiny BIADS certificate to display on your wall.
Corporate fundraising
As a local independent charity, BIADS relies on the fundraising efforts and contributions of those living and working in Barnsley to help us raise the funds we need every year to keep our doors open.
The support and services we offer are vital in ensuring people with dementia and their carers live well. We currently help over 200 families affected by this disease and want to help even more. There are so many ways your organisation can show its support for BIADS. Here are just a few:
Make BIADS your ‘Charity of Choice’
Why not set yourselves a challenge and set a fundraising target? Beginning a longer-term strategic relationship with BIADS, rather than choosing a different charitable cause each year, offers mutual benefits. These include increased employee engagement resulting in more monies raise. We are currently working with a number of corporates including NPS Barnsley who have kindly chosen BIADS as their 2017/18 Charity of Choice
Challenges and events
Ranging from running a marathon to organising a staff event, there are so many fantastic ways to encourage team building and develop employees’ skills whilst raising much needed monies. What is your team up for? We have BIADS’ t-shirts and running vests, can provide sponsorship forms and will help you promote the event
Employer supported volounteering
Whether this is regular, task specific or limited hours volunteering, there is something for everyone. Volunteering is so rewarding and could help your employees gain new skills and build confidence and self-esteem, whilst making a real difference to the lives of others. Everyone who takes part will get a certificate
Encourage payroll giving (Give as you earn)
This scheme enables employees to donate directly from their payroll. Donations are deducted before tax meaning we get more money. You can find more information about Payroll Giving or contact us
Sponsorship of events, equipment & publications
As much as actual monies are essential to ensure BIADS and our services remain in place, your organisation may prefer to offer sponsorship support. There are always opportunities available
Donation of time via support services
As an independent charity, BIADS is always looking for a helping hand in specialist support areas such as IT, HR, project management, staff training, printing or health and safety. So why not encourage your employees to put their professional skills and knowledge to good use to benefit others?
Secondment
You may wish to offer an employee the opportunity for a secondment to BIADS to work on a specific project. Secondments are increasingly recognised as valuable for both the employee and organisational development
Donation of products
From specialist equipment for use at BIADS’ Dementia Support Centre or a raffle prize, we welcome the donation of products
Match funding
Why not reward the hard efforts of your employees and the monies they raise by match funding?
Tax incentives
With the majority of fundraising efforts seen as ‘charity donations’, corporation tax relief can be claimed where applicable. Click here for the latest HMRC guidance on Charities and Tax
Approved collections
These can be held within your outlets and are the ideal way to get your customers involved.
If you think your organisation could help, whilst benefitting your employees too, we’d love to discuss how we could develop ideas unique to your organisation, for the maximum mutual benefit.
To discuss corporate fundraising please email Emma Atack at: emma@biads.org.uk or use the contact link at the bottom of the page.
Volunteering
BIADS would not be able to run the services we do without our amazing volunteers and if you could join us you too could help those people of Barnsley affected by dementia.
Would you like to make a real difference to the life of someone with dementia? Do you like having fun? Then why not apply to become a volunteer at BIADS.
If you have any free time, we want to hear from you. We have lots of different opportunities and we are sure we could match you with a service that will suit you. Here are just a few ideas that may be of interest you:
Activity volunteer
We are always keen to meet talented volunteers that want to support the activities we run at BIADS Support Centre, circle dancing, Jabadao assistants, the gym, activity and life story work and much more. Maybe you have a talent you think our members might enjoy, singing, playing an instrument, just let us know.
General volunteers
The vital volunteers that man the kitchen making drinks, serving and washing up, preparing for activity sessions and tidying up afterwards. Maybe you would like to help us maintain the grounds around the centre on a regular basis or would just like to volunteer for collection days and help us raise funds.

How to apply
It couldn’t be easier. Just click the link below to download the application form. Then, when completed email it to: louise@biads.org.uk
