Margaret’s working history has been in banking, although when her dad was diagnosed with dementia at the age of 65, she became aware of the Alzheimer’s Society and then BIADS as both these organisations had a massive impact on her mum and dad’s lives. She left banking in 2012 to support her mum in looking after her dad and Margaret joined BIADS in 2013 as a carer support worker.
Margaret absolutely loved her time as a carer support worker, providing support to carers throughout their journey of caring for someone with dementia. When the opportunity came along to work in a different role, although the decision wasn’t easy, it was the right one for her. As Operations Manager, Development Manager and now Deputy Chief Officer, Margaret has had the opportunity to work alongside Linda and the development/management team, to support the background work needed to keep BIADS going on a day to day basis.
Margaret has always kept our members at the heart of every role she has undertaken and is constantly amazed at the dedication and commitment of our carers who continue to support their loved ones day after day. She knows that for members, coming to BIADS’ services provides support, friendship, fun and laughter along with someone always on hand with a listening ear whenever needed.
She has been amazed to see how much BIADS has grown since 2013 and has truly enjoyed the opportunity to meet so many remarkable people with dementia and their carers. Margaret knows that our fantastic staff, amazing volunteers and remarkable members will ensure that BIADS’ success continues for many years to come.
Margaret has decided that now is the right time to embrace retirement and spend more time with her family. Although she is retiring, Margaret has agreed to support BIADS’ with any special projects that she can. Therefore, we are not saying goodbye for good!
BIADS’ staff and members will miss Margaret’s knowledge and experience immensely, however we wish her all the very best for a long and healthy retirement.
Thank you Margaret for all your dedication you have shown to BIADS’ staff and members since 2013.
