Deborah’s background is in business, most of her working life was in the corporate world.
In 2007 Deborah’s world was turned upside down when her mum became ill. Deborah gave up her frenetic business life to care for her mum until her death. In the aftermath Deborah decided she needed to be nearer to what was left of her family and started to look down other avenues. Deborah saw a job in a care home for an Activities Coordinator, how completely different could she get!
This was the start of Deborah’s education on dementia, which in turn became her passion. Dementia was a large part of the job so Deborah made it her mission to learn as much as she could in order to support the people she cared for in the care home. Deborah began with Dementia Friends and worked her way through NVQ’s 1, 2 and 3 in Health and Social Care and has a Worcester College diploma and became a Dementia Specialist. Deborah also became a qualified trainer so that she could pass her knowledge and passion on to others.
In 2018 Deborah’s world was turned upside down again when her husband developed a chronic illness and in an attempt to lead a better life they moved from Sheffield to Barnsley. Life became stressful travelling to work in Sheffield. When her husband spotted a job advert, he encouraged her to apply. Deborah started work for BIADS initially in the Day Centre, then in Carer Support. Deborah loves what she does for BIADS and is also very proud to work for such an outstanding organisation, where every team and every person involved has the same passion and commitment to what we do.
