We are proud to announce that Stephanie Peacock, MP for Barnsley East, has agreed to be our Patron. Stephanie takes the role on from Michael Dugher who was Patron of BIADS until he stood down from parliament. We very much look forward to working with Stephanie to promote our work and the needs of all people who are affected by dementia. Stephanie is pictured above with Peter Francis, BIADS’ Chairman and James Burgess, BIADS’ Trustee and Partner at MKB Solicitors.
Stephanie’s first visit to meet our members was at the launch of our ‘Here Today, Gone Tomorrow’ appeal to find funding for our support service for carers. This service helps carers of people who have dementia by providing advice, information and emotional support on what can be a very isolating and lonely journey. We need just 300 people to give £10 a month to help us to help those caring for a loved who has dementia – this equates to just 33p a day.
Stephanie said ‘those who are caring for people living with dementia in our society today are doing an incredible job in the most difficult of circumstances, and they deserve proper support. In difficult circumstances in social care, charities like BIADS do important work in supporting those living with dementia and their carers. It’s vital that charities like BIADS and the services they provide are properly supported. I was proud to become a patron of BIADS and look forward to supporting them in future.’
