Last week we were featured in the glorious ‘Our Dancing Town’ which starred our very own Joan and Ken Dawson. What a brilliant programme it was – very positive about Barnsley, great publicity for BIADS and a wonderful experience for Joan and Ken – what could be better?
We can announce that our Pie Off (supported by Barnsley Chronicle) will now take place during the Food Festival at Cannon Hall which takes place from 25th to 28th August. We have been accepted as the charity partner for the festival which is fantastic news for us as this event is very well attended and we can let so many people know about our wonderful organisation. Details about how to enter the Pie Off to follow……
This news followed an email from the organisers of ‘LIVE in Barnsley’ who have chosen us as their charity for this year’s event on 17th June. ‘‘LIVE in Barnsley’ is a FREE Metropolitan Music Festival which is spread over a number of venues in a fairly compact area of Barnsley town centre and now draws over 4,000 music lovers each Summer to the town. The festival was the brainchild of Dave Pearsall and Steve Clifford over a late night pint in a local music venue back in December 2012. The aim of the festival is to showcase the diverse musical talents our town and the surrounding northern region has to offer. We really like the idea that people can wander in and out of venues to watch bands they know and sometimes experience the music of bands they have never heard of but then become a fan.
Local Vocals is a pop and rock choir based in Barnsley and they have also chosen BIADS as their charity of the year! They are a four part vocal harmony group, of mixed age and ability, with one thing in common; they all love to sing! From the swinging sixties to the present day they have a varied catalogue and perform both locally and further afield. The choir has been running in various guises for around nine years and in early 2015 became Local Vocals.
Last but not least Stainborough Rotary Club has adopted us as charity of the year and we look forward to working with them. We have already joined them prior to Christmas collecting at Tesco’s in Penistone. Plans for the year to be announced.
Considering it is just mid-way through January haven’t we done well! These partnerships all allow us to raise the profile of BIADS and the work we do. We guarantee that the money that is raised will be used exclusively to support people in Barnsley affected by dementia. If you want to know more about how to support us please get in touch at: firstname.lastname@example.org or call us on 01226 280057.
