At BIADS we like to try new and innovative things to offer our members, as a consequence we have been trialling a series of Dementia Dogs sessions.
One of our associates has four beautiful well trained gentle huskies which he brings in so our members can cuddle, stroke feed and generally enjoy being with.
Research has shown that animals, in particular dogs, can help with health benefits such as boosting the “feel good” hormone serotonin. It has also been shown that the interaction between dogs and humans can help reduce anxiety and low moods in those with dementia. It appeals to both members who have dogs of their own, and those who have not and can help recall happy memories of pets members may have had in their life time.
We now plan to include this as part of our regular service offering each set lasting four consecutive weeks.
