Deputy Chief Officer Pam Evans has been named Group Leisure magazine’s Group Travel Organiser of the Year 2014 for BIADS’ holidays and excursions. The national award recognises an individual who makes a real difference to the lives of other people.

On a night celebrating the best in group travel Pam was presented with the top award at a ceremony in Birmingham. Her £1,750 prize will be spent on a familiarisation holiday with a view to organising something similar for BIADS’ members.

The judges said that they were impressed with Pam’s caring nature, fantastic organising skills and her ability to make a real difference to people with Alzheimer’s and dementia. They added that Pam’s trips also provide an outlet for a network of carers. To see a five minute clip of the awards evening look at You Tube – Group Leisure Awards for 2014.

Our latest award came when our town centre Arcade shop won first prize in the Charity Shops category of the Barnsley Civic Trust Awards for 2014. This is another fantastic achievement for BIADS and particularly for shop manager Sonia Hume and our volunteers.

The judging panel consisted of representatives from Barnsley in Bloom, Barnsley Junior Chamber of Commerce, Barnsley Chamber of Commerce and Barnsley Property and Living Magazine, as well as Barnsley Civic Trust.
